Tropical Storm Debby

Update #5

Debby continues off the coast of SC and is expected to move ashore this afternoon weakening into a depression. Heavy rainfall is expected to continue which may cause localized flooding in the Charleston, Charlotte and Wilmington areas.

Update #4

Debby has moved out over the Atlantic Ocean and is not expected to strengthen, but the Carolinas can still see heavy rain, flooding, storm surge, gusty winds, and some tornadoes.  Debby is expected to stay offshore through Wednesday before sliding back inland Thursday.

Update #3

The worst part of Debby has moved out of Georgia and into the Carolinas.  The storm is still moving very slowing dumping a lot of rain that is expected to cause flooding to coastal and inland areas.

Update #2

Debby is now well inland and the storm’s forward speed slowed to a crawl, the last report earlier this morning is 6mph.  This means there will be excessive rainfall in Georgia and the Carolinas.  Debby is expected to linger along the Southeast coast and produce significant flooding, gusting winds, prolonged inundation, and storm surge. 

The storm is currently Southwest of Savannah and moving very slowly North Northeast making its way to Charleston. 

Port Status:

GPA will be closed for all vessel and gate operations and expect to have a “late start” on Wednesday; although, they have not yet published a Wednesday opening time. https://gaports.com/blog/tropical-storm-debby-updates/

JAX Port and the Port of Tampa will likely resume normal operations tomorrow after a late start to the day.

Wilmington has no updates at this time.

SCSPA has yet to announce any changes to Vessel or Gate Ops; operating normal gate hours.  They are monitoring the storm and will provide updates as necessary.

…DEBBY EXPECTED TO CAUSE MAJOR FLOODING OVER THE SOUTHEASTERN UNITED STATES DURING THE NEXT FEW DAYS…

Continued weakening is expected while the center of Debby remains over land tonight and Tuesday. By late Tuesday and thereafter, some restrengthening is anticipated as the center moves offshore. Going forward, the biggest threat from this slow-moving system system is extreme precipitation and flooding over the southeastern United States.
